About
I want to understand why things work, and then explain it clearly.
Business student at Houston Community College with interests spanning process-focused business analysis, consumer insights, research, writing, and visual communication. I build my portfolio through independent projects that combine evidence, interpretation, and storytelling.
I am a business student, researcher, writer, and visual communicator, and I am most interested in understanding why things work the way they do and then explaining that reasoning clearly. My long-term direction is process-focused business analysis, supported by consumer insights, project coordination, and data storytelling. What I enjoy most is taking an ambiguous question, organizing the information around it, looking for patterns or problems, and turning the result into something another person can actually use.
My portfolio reflects that combination. My first major analysis project examines how attention on social platforms and in search varies across high-profile crime cases. I built the dataset myself from YouTube, Reddit, Google Trends, and documented media-trigger events, kept a separate source workbook, normalized the platform metrics, and created a weighted popularity score. It is now moving into Power BI so I can learn how to turn the research into an interactive visual story.
I am also developing a more conventional business project comparing Starbucks and Dunkin across customer appeal, pricing, market positioning, product focus, and competitive strengths. Alongside the business work I write fiction and poetry and build graphic-design work. Those creative interests are not separate from where I am heading: they shape how I structure information, how I explain an idea, and how I design something for a real reader rather than for numbers alone.
The habit I am most deliberately building is source discipline — writing down where a figure came from, when it was collected, and what it cannot tell you. It is slower, and it is the part of the work I would most want a reader to check.
What I am curious about
- Business processes and how decisions get justified with evidence
- Consumer insights and competitor comparison
- Media attention and why it concentrates where it does
- Psychology and the way context changes interpretation
- Writing fiction, and the structure underneath a story
- Visual communication and presentation design
Where I am heading
My direction is process-focused business analysis: understanding how something currently works, where it breaks down, what the evidence says, and what a stakeholder should do about it. The Starbucks and Dunkin project is the one I am rebuilding around that structure, because it is the closest thing I have to a real commercial question.
The next proof point I want is a project with an actual stakeholder and a process to improve, rather than a question I set myself. Until then, the honest description of my analysis work is that it is independent, self-directed, and documented well enough that someone else could check it.
